The traditional music in Cuban culture has its roots in African heritage.Two basic genres of Afro-Cuban music are Rumba and Danzon.

The word "Rumba" comes from the verb "rumbear" which means going to parties, dancing, and having a good time.

Danzon was developed in the 1870s and it is a very slow, elegant dance performed by couples.
